A White Kiss - James L. Craig The story plot itself isn't bad, the idea of a father being unhappy that his son is gay, walking in on him kissing his best friend and freaking out and trying to strangle the other boy and then refusing to talk with his son for days and days, going so far to even leave the house on business. My problems with the story is partly the writing, it's stilted somehow, it's hard to explain but the narrator JoJo tells me all these things, but it sounds way more mature than a 17 year old and it doesn't make me care about him,, unfortunately. The father supposedly knew he was gay for years so he tried to 'man' him up with football and his mother sets him up with the neighbor boy because the moms knew they were both gay, but it comes as a shock to JoJo? Then the explanation the father gave him for being such an asshat? He tries to strangle Sammy, doesn't talk to his son for days, threatens him and all because being gay is dangerous, people will or might hurt him so he did his best to not make him gay, yep, his mother made him gay ( wonderful) so he tries to kill the other boy? WTF of an explanation is that? . But the kicker was the 180 the dad does at the end, no apology, nope, only a be good to my son speech. Just a side note, you are really going to give up a scholarship without talking to your parents to see if they can pay for your schooling if you stay here for a boy who has been your boyfriend for an hour? Oh and sleeping outside in the snow in the park overnight on New Years Eve? No mention of being cold or freezing or finding shelter? Noo...make snow angels and fall asleep.
